In May 2024, we returned to the dairy farm where we previously rescued Tay, Sheldon, Calvin, and Connor. This time, we were there to bring a precious three-day-old bull calf, born with contracted fetlocks, to the safety of Iowa Farm Sanctuary.
Contracted fetlocks are a condition where the calf’s front legs are bent abnormally due to tight tendons, making it difficult for him to stand or walk properly. With the right care, he has a great chance of leading a healthy and happy life.
While at the dairy, we also met Asher’s mother, which was a bittersweet moment, as we did not have permission to rescue her with her son. All we could do was promise her that her son would be loved and safe with us, and let the dairy know that we would be happy to someday reunite the two at IFS.
We got Asher’s legs splinted, and we are hoping for a full recovery. Asher’s journey is just beginning, and we are committed to providing him with the best care possible. Asher was named for the grey spots on his face, which we had never seen before in a Holstein before! He is a playful, curious little boy and we are very excited to have him here at the sanctuary with us.
