Kayla the Fighter
Kayla the Fighter must have known things were not looking good for her when she stepped onto a semi trailer years ago. She and hundreds of other piglets were headed down Interstate 80 near Des Moines when she decided to make a break for it. Aside from some road rash, Kayla came out unharmed. She was likely headed to a CAFO to be fattened up and killed for food at only 6 months of age. Fortunately, Kayla was able to live peacefully alongside our other rescued pig residents and was free to feel the sunshine on her back and roll in the mud, a life most pigs in Iowa will never know. Kayla was named after another incredible survivor named Kayla, who battled cancer. “Kayla the Fighter” couldn’t be a more perfect name for them both.
