Precious little Olive was listed on craigslist in an ad titled “ewe for butcher.” The ad explained that Olive was being sold for slaughter because she had an easily treatable ailment that the farmer was choosing not to treat. We reached out to the farmer immediately, and we discovered that Olive was pregnant. We were truly speechless.
Realizing how urgent the situation was, we knew we had to do everything in our power to save Olive and her unborn lamb(s). Thankfully, we were able to secure Olive’s freedom, and we rushed her to safety as fast as we could.
It was clear that Olive had never been treated with love and kindness before, and it took some time for her to decide that we were here to give her the best life. But Olive always had a little smile on her face, and each day she grew more relaxed. We were happy to give her all the space she needed to let her discover that she was finally safe.
Olive was the first pregnant resident we had ever had at the sanctuary, and her lamb was the first individual ever born into the freedom that our sanctuary provides. Pablo was born on March 11, 2021. It’s truly magical—Pablo will never know suffering or fear, and this precious family will never be separated. Olive and her child deserve all of the love and kindness in the world, and that’s exactly what they’ll receive at IFS.
