Spice and her sister Sugar are Hereford pigs. They were found abandoned on the side of road in Runnells, Iowa by a very compassionate woman, who just so happened to be a big supporter of IFS. When a sheriff arrived on the scene, he was fearful that the pigs were “wild” because of their hair, so they got animal control involved quickly. Our team got on the phones as soon as we heard the news and made sure the sheriff knew that the girls were not a threat (all pigs have hair!), and that they would have a place to live if no one claimed them. The Animal Rescue League of Iowa picked up the pigs and brought them quickly to safety—they were given their names by one of the ARL's summer interns. These two were incredibly sassy when we first met them, but their personalities have softened over time, and now they’re quite friendly!
